As a young artist, Rob resided on the island of Shona Beag, where he lived a ‘hermetic’ experience, living as much as possible off the land and from the sea as well as making ephemeral land-based work.
All of Rob’s work is based on the land — and, although often not topographical, his artwork always relates in some way to the landscape or the geology, stories, songs and myths that this encompasses.
Since 1994, Rob has been heavily involved with Room 13, a studio-based forum facilitating the work of young artists and enabling artists of all ages to exchange ideas, skills and experience. In 2009, the charitable organisation Room 13 International was formed to support the growing network of Room 13 studios.
